One of Kenya's first locally produced movie "The Rise and Fall of Idi Amin" opened at the Kenya Cinema, Mombasa in October 1980 and played for 3 weeks.
Interestingly Kenya cinema added an afternoon show at 3pm everyday.
Note the 20th Century Fox logo on the left centre with the caption 'Presented by Anglo American Film Distributors" Kenya Film Corporation did not distribute this movie?!
In Mombasa first repeat films usually played at the Regal or Moons. In this case the first repeat also played at the Kenya Cinema 1 year later in October 1981.
A new print was released in Kenya Cinema, Nairobi in December 1991.
Internationally the film was released as "Amin: The Rise and Fall"
It cost $4 million to produce and the box office revenues reached $36 million!
The film won 5 awards including best actor at the Las Vegas International Film Festival
